Diplomatika – Mr Ambassador, how would you describe the current state of relations between the European Union and Senegal?
« Relations between the EU and Senegal are a model of a balanced partnership. We work together on such diverse lines as food security, democratic governance, energy transition and vocational training. This partnership is now entering a new strategic phase, aligned with Agenda 2063 of the African Union. »
Diplomatika – What are the main challenges you identify in this cooperation?
« The first challenge is to align our respective political schedules. The EU operates over long institutional cycles, while emergencies on the African ground sometimes require immediate responsiveness. The second challenge is to better involve civil society, youth and women in the design and evaluation of our programmes. »
Diplomatika – What role does youth play in your diplomatic agenda?
« Youth is at the heart of everything. With nearly 70% of the African population under 30, any partnership strategy that does not integrate this demographic reality is doomed to failure. Our Erasmus+ programmes, entrepreneurship funds and digital training are specifically designed to meet this need. »
